(The first and the only shiva temple in the world with 108 Shivas*)
The following is a brief introduction about Sri.Navaratri functions.
Once a great war started between the divine powers, who are called as "Devaas"
and the evil powers, which are called as "Asuras". The war took place to
show who is the superior power. The Devaas are unable to conquer the
asuraas. So, they prayed Sri Durga to bless, protect and save them from the
asuraas. So, Goddess Durga along with Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess
Saraswathi took a fearsome incarnation and killed all the evil powers. She
saved and protected the devaas. The war took place for nine days. The nine
asuraas and their battalion are killed one by one on each day. These nine
days are called as "Navaratri". The Sanskrit word "nava" means new. "Ratri"
means nights. The devas had fearful nights till all the Asuraas were killed
by goddess Durga, the days are called as "navaratri". On the
In the nine days, the first three days are for Sri. Durga. By praying her we can have a good strength, winning and willing power. The Durga Sahasranaamam says, "navaratri Dina aaraadhya, raashtradha, raashtra, vardhini". It means if we pray Sri. Durga, she will improve our kingdom where we live and she will make us a leader in our fields. We can also have a great strength and courage. The second three days are for Sri. Mahalakshmi by praying her we can have a good wealth and uplift in all manners of our life. The third three days are for Sri. Saraswathi. By praying her we will have good wisdom and knowledge. The tenth day is for the united shape of the holy trinity. This is the best day to start new business, education, and all other new efforts. If we start a new account on this day the business will flourish through out the year.
This
is the best day to start education to the students and by that they are sure
to do well in the classes they are studying in and there is no doubt that
they will be the top student in their school. The navaratri is being
celebrated in two parts. The first part is special prayers to the holy
trinity and the second part is called as "Bommaikolu". The second part kolu
is arranged to show all the things to Sri. Durga. For the first part we
have made Sri. Sapthasathi parayanam, which is called as "Chandi paad" in
Hindi, Navaavarana pooja and thiruvilakku pooja. For the second part we have
arranged kolu also. To calm the angriness of Sri. Durga. Cultural programs
are also arranged for this reason. Special poojas for the students are
